HARRIS: TRUMP’S COMMENTS ARE UN – AMERICAN, HE HAS TAKEN THE PRESIDENCY TO A NEW LOW//CRIMSON TAZVINZWA/

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) unleashed blistering criticism of President Trump’s attacks against 4  of progressive Democratic Congresswomen on Tuesday evening, saying his behavior “defiles” the White House and that he had taken the presidency to a “new low.”

“I think it’s un-American. It is unbecoming of the president of the United States,” Harris told CNN’s Kyung Lah. “I think it defiles the office of the president of the United States. It is irresponsible, it is hateful, it is hurtful and he has taken the presidency to a new low.”

The 2020 presidential hopeful urged Mr Trump to “go back to where he came from and leave that office”. Her comments came after the House of Representatives voted to condemn the US president’s racist tweets on Tuesday night.

On Sunday, Mr Trump had said some Democratic congresswomen should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came”.

While the US president did not name the targets of his attack, the context of his tweet made it clear it was aimed at a group of four progressive Democratic women of colour – Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley.
