The average weight of a baby in the UK is around 7lb 7oz.
The record was previously been held by Savannah Phillips, daughter of Zara’s brother Peter Phillips, as she weighed 8lb 8oz when she was born in 2010.
Harry was only 6lb 14oz when he arrived in 1984. It is not known how much Meghan weighed when she was born.
All three of the Duchess of Cambridge’s children have weighed more than 8lb, but less than 9lb.
Prince Louis of Cambridge was 8lb 7oz – heavier than Prince George and Princess Charlotte – when he was born in April last year.
Charlotte, at 8lb 3oz, weighed slightly less than George’s 8lb 6oz, but was still above average.
George was the heaviest future king in recent royal history.
Prince William weighed 7lb 1.5oz in 1982, while Charles weighed 7lb 6oz in 1948.
The Queen – then Princess Elizabeth – was born by Caesarean section in her maternal grandparents’ London home in 1926, and was also third in line to the throne at the time, but her weight was not announced, as was the custom then for royal babies.
Mia Tindall – Zara’s oldest daughter – weighed 7lb 12oz when she was born in 2014.
