Senator Schumer holds military service personnel with respect and honour; “We commend the bravery of our service members and personnel in harm’s way.
“And I condemn the attack by the Iranian government and remain concerned about the risk of a further escalation.
“Americans do not want a war with Iran. President Trump does not have the authority for one.”
On witnesses & documents, Republicans can run but can’t hide Democrats will force votes to put Republicans on record A trial without evidence is a farce If Senate Republicans vote to prevent witnesses and documents, Americans will see it as a cover-up
: “He said Iran appears to be standing down. He noted the fact there were no casualties last night in the attack. Is that in fact the case. What if any proof does the White House have that there won’t be attacks through Iran’s proxies?” #AMRstaff
100% there will be attacks. Trump got played by Iran. I don’t know if he knows it but his advisers do. That is why such a short speech. They somehow were able to get him under control for a few minutes but could not risk more.

US Judiciary Committee Debates President Trump Impeachment articles ahead of vote

Nancy Pelosi told reporters that the House would act next week to wrap up its impeachment inquiry, after the articles of impeachment are voted on by House Judiciary Committee this week.
“Next week we’ll take up something,” Pelosi told reporters as she discussed the timetable for the impeachment inquiry launched by Democrats.
A former top national security adviser to President Trump told Republicans in the House impeachment inquiry Thursday morning to stop advancing a “fictional narrative” that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 U.S. elections rather than Russia.
“Based on questions and statements I have heard, some of you on this committee appear to believe that Russia and its security services did not conduct a campaign against our country — and that perhaps, somehow, for some reason, Ukraine did. This is a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services themselves,” said Fiona Hill, who until July was the deputy assistant to the president and senior director for Europe and Russia on the National Security Council.
“The unfortunate truth is that Russia was the foreign power that systematically attacked our democratic institutions in 2016. This is the public conclusion of our intelligence agencies, confirmed in bipartisan congressional reports. It is beyond dispute, even if some of the underlying details must remain classified,” Hill continued.
Hill, who testified alongside State Department counselor David Holmes, told the House Intelligence Committee that the Russians have succeeded in what they set out to do in 2016, and are going to do it again in the 2020 election.
“Our nation is being torn apart. Truth is questioned. Our highly professional and expert career foreign service is being undermined,” Hill said. “President Putin and the Russian security services operate like a super-PAC. They deploy millions of dollars to weaponize our own political opposition research and false narratives. When we are consumed by partisan rancor, we cannot combat these external forces as they seek to divide us against each other, degrade our institutions and destroy the faith of the American people in our democracy.”
As the case against Donald Trump grows, Fox News has been going to increasingly deranged lengths to avoid talking about evidence of the president’s alleged misconduct with Ukraine.
And on Wednesday, Laura Ingraham and Raymond Arroyo broke new ground by laughing at State Department official George Kent for supposedly being unreasonably thirsty.
With a chyron which said “Dems’ Embarrassing Display of Partisan Theatrics”, Fox News showed clip after clip of Kent drinking water as Arroyo compared his bottle to a “water silo”…
“Fish are not this hydrated!” Arroyo scoffed.
If there’s one thing we love more than government accountability, it’s a well-hydrated man.
Of course, it is true that Kent does have a very big water bottle – he’s a smart enough man to know the importance of good hydration – but there were surely more important points for Fox News to talk about.
Although other people picked up on Kent’s monster bottle as well (it’s a 48oz Wide Mouth Silo by Nalgene, by the way), they tended to look at it as an endearing quirk.
And obviously, laughing at a man for drinking water is not the strong attack line Fox News seems to think it is.
