Further great news that our High Streets aren't dying. This report states last year saw an increase of 315 pubs - OK so still over 10K fewer than the naughties but what a pleasant surprise to read about an increase! The shift towards food is a main reason and food service staff in pubs now account for 44% of employees whilst bar staff are at 29%. There'll be some pretty obvious reasons for this and perhaps even advances in self serve technology is beginning to have an impact but interestingly, the % of bar staff increased in 2019....Why?....perhaps in response to the wider variety of beers and spirits; the array of micro breweries and maybe alcohol free is beginning to attract new customers - I was certainly impressed with my visit to BrewDog first AF pub last week (see my post here..) https://lnkd.in/dCa3eBU I think I'll celebrate this news by visiting my local later, who's with me??! Let's hope parliament are watching and embrace this opportunity for further sustainable growth by implementing the right policies!
