China will donate CFA4.5 million (USD8 million) to Cameroon’s military, local media reported on 18 July. The donation was made by China’s ambassador to Cameroon during a meeting with Defence Minister Joseph Beti Assomo.

The ambassador was quoted as saying that the money would help Cameroon “reinforce its capacities in peacekeeping and security operations in the region”.
Cameroon is facing two insurgencies: one from Islamist militants in its Far North Region, a second in the Anglophone west. Recent claims that Cameroonian forces have carried out extrajudicial killings could potentially affect the military support it receives from the United States.
