Lewis Hamilton speaks out on Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul’s death; ‘I will never forget’

AIWA! NO! Then press~~ARETHA FRANKLIN died at the age of 76 yesterday, following a battle with advance pancreatic cancer. Now, Lewis Hamilton has addressed her death on Instagram and recalled the first time he heard her music.

Aretha Franklin’s passed away yesterday morning at her home in Detroit, “surrounded by family and loved ones”.

The Queen of Soul’s cause of death was due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, her doctor Dr. Philip Phillips confirmed.

Lewis Hamilton shared a touching message in view of his seven million Instagram followers, saying her music “took my breath away” last night.

The 33-year-old remembered the first time he heard the music legend while also sharing two pictures of her.

“Aretha, your beautiful voice will always have an everlasting impact on this world,” the F1 driver started.

Lewis continued: “You truly moved, inspired and changed the entire meaning of soul forever.

“I will never forget the first time I heard your voice, it took my breath away. My prayers are with your family and loved ones.”

The star, who is gearing up for Belgian Grand Prix, signed off: “God bless and rest in peace, Queen of Soul #Inspiration #Greatness.”

It comes just hours after her family released a statement, revealing how she died after a previous battle with the disease.

It read: “In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart.

“We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds.”

The statement also said: “We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love and support we have received from close friends, supporters and fans all around the world.

“Thank you for your compassion and prayers. We have felt your love for Aretha and it brings us comfort to know that her legacy will live on. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”

Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days, Aretha’s publicist Gwendolyn Quinn stated.

Meanwhile, the star’s ex-husband Glynn Turman, who was married to her between 1978 and 1984, has broken his silence on her death.

He told ITV’s Good Morning Britain that she was “strong to the very end” after tributes poured in from the likes of Sir Elton John and Oprah Winfrey.

The actor, 71, said: ”I was holding her hand at the bedside, holding her wrist, which was now no more than skin and bone, but her pulse was so strong and so, so full of life.

“Her breathing was such a defiance of what was attacking her, that you got the sense Aretha was fighting all the way.”

The Cooley High star added that she had a “great sense of humour” and that she was “always cracking jokes”.


  1. I enjoyed her big hits back in the early 1970s when they were on the radio and pop charts. That was back in middle school days for me, but her songs are really timeless, you know.
